Descriptif Descriptif

The Chapelle-les-Sciers district comprises eighteen buildings on eight hectares of land, previously fields or allotments. The urban project consists in erecting rectangular buildings of seven or eight storeys, freely positioned, once on the large side and once on the small side. In the centre, the large communal underground car park is located outside the buildings’ foundations. The entire housing scheme is controlled financially by the State, since located in a development zone. At the centre of the scheme, the only “solitary” building in the complex stands out by the expression of its façade where a form of artistic vision outweighs the idea that we may have of low-cost housing. On this very contemporary envelope, opaque parts in very slightly corrugated metal sheeting alternate with long windows, whose upper and lower levels vary randomly. With six apartments by floor, reached by a large staircase, the living areas are based on a typology focusing on three recurrent themes: the large hall that becomes inhabitable; the position of a small closed kitchen which articulates the relationship between inside and outside day space, with the large loggia in a slanted form; the concept of a multi-purpose room emerges as time passes.
