Descriptif Descriptif

The “Corail” residential building, for which a local zoning plan (plan localisé de quartier – PLQ) was issued, is one of a complex of three buildings (one administrative). This final piece in block of buildings with courtyard is placed perpendicular to its almost identical twin, the “Bamboo” building. This specific positioning determined the apartments’ typology and the façade design. The ground floor accommodates a day hospital and is set back from the two existing adjacent buildings. Five central staircases serve the sixty double aspect apartments. Access is via a large lobby. The day areas, on the sunny side, comprise open-plan kitchen, and a living area, connecting to a bedroom. The glass sliding doors allow occupants to enjoy the outdoors without the addition of balconies. The other bedrooms are on the courtyard side. The façade expression differ greatly: to the south, a glass façade with proportional regular, repetitive metal strips and canvas blinds in three shades of coral enlivening the whole; on the small inner courtyard side the envelope is much simpler in beige rough cast randomly pierced by vertical windows. Eight duplex apartments occupy the top two floors. They are set back with wide terraces and slightly undulating massing, like a nod to their neighbour "Bambou". The Bambou building, for which a local zoning plan (plan localise de quartier – PLQ) was issued, is one of a complex of three buildings (one administrative). Built against the wall of the next door building on rue Chandieu, it adopts its slight curve. It is positioned perpendicular to its almost identical twin, the “Corail” building, and opens out on to a large courtyard. The forty-six double aspect apartments are served by three central staircases accessed from the Chandieu school side. The day rooms are located on the courtyard side, adjacent to a wide covered terrace. The bedrooms are on the road side. Each apartment has a large hall that leads into the living room. On the ground floor the apartments have small loggias on the road side and a private garden on the courtyard side. The two facades vary according to their orientation: the south-facing terraces have a wooden deck and are punctuated by sliding screen-printed glass panels, in five shades of bamboo enlivening the whole: on the north side, transparent glass panels alternate with opaque coloured panels. A continuous metal band marks and unifies the volume. Six duplex apartments occupy the top two floors. They are set back with wide terraces and slightly undulating massing, like a nod to their neighbour "Corail”.
